Students, faculty and special guests celebrated Longfellow Elementary School’s selection as a National ESEA Distinguished School, during a school assembly Monday morning.
Longfellow Principal Lisa Heckenlaible led the celebration. “Your persistence and determination has paved the way for this remarkable achievement”, Heckenlaible told the students. “Each one of you is a very important part of our school’s success. And today we celebrate your accomplishments with great pride. Longfellow Lions, the learners, give yourselves three big claps.”
Heckenlaible said everyone in the building played a role in earning the prestigious recognition. “From our outstanding learners, to our committed staff, each person has played a crucial role in the earning of this prestigious award.”
Longfellow is one of two elementary schools in South Dakota and one out of 100 in the nation designated as a distinguished school.
The Mitchell School Board, Superintendent Joe Childs and South Dakota Secretary of Education Joe Graves also participated in the celebration.
