A 57-year-old man died late Sunday afternoon from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash 13 miles south of Brookings.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported the driver of a 2012 Toyota Rav4 SUV was traveling northbound on Interstate 29 near mile marker 119 around 5:35 pm when the vehicle in front of him made a sudden lane change, revealing a motorcycle that appeared to be leaving the shoulder to reenter traffic. The driver of the SUV collided with the motorcycle. The motorcycle entered the east ditch where it rolled, separating the rider from the motorcycle. The driver of the SUV lost control, entered the east ditch and rolled.
The driver of the SUV was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
