The second ribbon-cutting in a week celebrated yet another expansion of a Mitchell family-owned business. A large group gathered Thursday afternoon at the new Muth Electric Mitchell Division Prefabrication Shop.
Dick Muth says they started working out of a garage. “July 15th, 1970. We kicked off our business with barely, we might have had $500 net worth,” said Dick. “I kind of rounded up.”
“We approached two banks about a loan and they said we were too young.” Darlene concurred. “We just decided…it might delay us but it’s not going to stop us.”
And Muth Electric has continued growing for the next 54 years. “Doing more jobs, hiring more people, doing more jobs and just kept growing,” Dick said. “That was always our vision.”
Darlene kept working at a bank and they started their family. “Kept working hard and saving and putting it back in the company and it grew,” she said.
Today Muth Electric has around 550 employees at a number of locations including this new 75,000 square foot facility. “Air conditioned under one roof, all of our stuff,” said Dick. “We’re going to be more efficient and on top of that, we’ll have happy employees working in an air conditioned building.”
Governor Kristi Noem and Congressman Dusty Johnson were among the guests attending the event.
