The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has released the names of two people from Pierre who died Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 near mile marker 331 in Mitchell.
Preliminary crash information indicates shortly after 5pm, a Dodge Ram driven by 34 year old Shane Tyler Willis was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 between the two Mitchell exits when the vehicle entered the south ditch and struck a guard cable near an upcoming bridge over Rowley Street. The vehicle fell onto Rowley Street where it struck a retaining wall and came to rest on its side.
Willis and his wife, 38 year old Melynda Jean Willis, sustained fatal injuries. Two young passengers, a three-year old male and one-year old female sustained minor injuries. All occupants were wearing a seat belt.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
