A man from Piedmont man died last Friday evening in a four-vehicle crash one mile east of Deadwood, SD.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported shortly after 8pm, 92 year old Robert Allen Erickson was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban east on US Highway 14A and crossed the centerline, sideswiping an oncoming 2010 Ford Flex driven by 41 year old Joanna Silvia Barlow, causing the Ford to spin and come to rest on the centerline. The Suburban then struck an oncoming Ford F-150 head-on, driven by 44 year old Justin Weaver, which went off the road and into the ditch. The Suburban then struck a GMC Sierra, driven by 42 year old Cody Lynn Oliver. The Suburban came to rest in the westbound passing lane.
Erickson was pronounced deceased at the scene. Justin Weaver and passenger 41 year old Lindsey Weaver in the F-150 were transported to Monument Health in Rapid City with life-threatening injuries. Joanna Barlow and a two-year-old passenger in the Ford Flex, and Cody Oliver in the GMC Sierra, were not injured.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
