Authorities have released the names of those involved in crash where a pick up truck was struck by a train last Saturday in Sanborn County seven miles southwest of Woonsocket.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported 30 year old Alejandro Mackenzie Flores of Rosharon, Texas, the driver of a 2012 Ford F350 and 29 year old passenger Andrew Murray Lacy, also of Rosharon, Texas were near the intersection of 399th Avenue and 237th Street in Sanborn County working in the area along the tracks. The truck was unable to get off the tracks before being struck by a BNSF train around 4:39 pm Saturday.
Flores died at the scene. Lacy was taken to a Mitchell hospital with minor injuries. Two engineers on the train, 41 year old Brian Michael Parker and Jerett Wilson, both of Aberdeen, were not injured.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
