The transition to the 2020 mural theme at the World’s Only Corn Palace is underway. Decorating crews have already removed the Iwo Jima mural that was part of the 2019 Salute to Military in preparation for “South Dakota Homegrown.”
City administrator Stephanie Ellwein says the colored corn crop is running behind schedule due to weather. “Our corn-grower did plant…a little bit extra this year,” said Ellwein. “We should be able to meet all the needs with the corn that we have.”
She says work on the murals will stretch into November as it did last year.
For the second year students from Dakota Wesleyan University’s digital media and design program brought the theme to life.
