Davison County Commissioners Tuesday approved a request by Colleen Stegenga to operate a small-scale, home-based professional counseling office on her agricultural property near Mount Vernon.
She says Embracing Change fills a need regarding mental health in rural areas. “I do a lot with just kind of your anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, life transitions, life changes,” said Stegenga. “And then I do work with some kids too, if they’re not having a very successful experience with schooling, I try to help them figure out that piece as well.”
Stegenga also offers animal assisted therapy as an option.
Chairman Randy Reider liked the idea. “When we talk about our mental health services and that we’re always hoping for more in our area to satisfy the large need,” he said.
Stegenga is licensed clinical social worker with nearly ten years experience.
Commissioners approved the plan unanimously.
