One person dead and another hurt in a pickup train collision in Sanborn County

A 30 year old man from Rosharon, Texas died man died and another was injured Saturday afternoon when their pick-up was struck by a train seven miles southwest of Woonsocket.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported the driver of a 2012 Ford F350 and a passenger was near the intersection of 399th  Avenue and 237th Street in Sanborn County working in the area along the tracks. The truck was unable to get off the tracks before being struck by a BNSF train around 4:39 pm Saturday.

The driver died at the scene. A 29 year old male passenger, also from Rosharon, Texas, was taken to a Mitchell with minor injuries. The 41 year old male train engineer from Aberdeen aboard the train was not injured.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
