An 80 year old man from Belvidere, SD died following a three-vehicle collision Sunday mid-afternoon near Kadoka.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported a Dodge Ram was traveling eastbound on I-90 near mile marker 157. At the same time, a Honda Civic and Freightliner Cascadia were traveling westbound on I-90. The 80 year old driver of the Dodge Ram lost control of the vehicle in icy conditions, crossed the median, entered the westbound lanes, and struck the other two vehicles.
He was transported to a Rapid City hospital where he died from his injuries on Monday.
The 33 year old male driver of the Honda Civic suffered minor injuries and his 11 year old male passenger suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries. Both were wearing seatbelts. The 36 year old male driver of the Freightliner from Edmonton, Alberta was uninjured and was also wearing a seatbelt.
The names of the people involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
