Daredevil Cole Freeman is coming back to Mitchell and will jump his motorcycle in front of the World’s Only Corn Palace during the second annual Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party. New to the event this year will be the Ives Brothers in the “Metal Globe of Death.” The Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party will take place on Mitchell’s Main Street from 5-10 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, with the jump scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
“Mitchell is looking forward to welcoming the riders to our community and showcasing our unique specialty shops, museums, and the pride of over 15,000 residents who believe in hard work, growth, community and family,” said Brian Klock, Klock Werks president and visionary. “This is an event for all ages, so bring the family for the jump at 7:45, the Metal Globe of Death, enjoy local food vendors, live music and more!”
Community members and motorcyclists from across the nation are invited to a night of stunts, food vendors and live music. Nashville rising star Shelby Lee Lowe, as well as Dustin Evans and the Good Times Band will perform.
Food vendors and the Jack Daniel’s beverage garden will be available from 5-10 p.m. Also in attendance will be special guests Carey Hart and Danny Dixxon.
New to the event this year will be the fill-a-truck food pantry drive on Main St. and West 6th Ave. sponsored by the Mitchell Area Charitable Foundation. The food drive will run from 5 p.m.-7:30 p.m. and will accept food and or monetary donations to support the local food pantry.
North Main Street from 4th Ave. to 7th Ave. will be closed for the evening’s events. Motorcycle-only parking will be available in the lot adjacent to 6th Ave. and Lawler. There will be a UTV show on West 5th Ave. between Rowley and Main St., and a car show on Main St. from 4th Ave. to 5th Ave.
The Bikers Against Bullies, a national nonprofit organization created by bikers to raise awareness and empower the community to fight bullying through education, community outreach and fundraising, will also be present.
“The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally brings thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts through Mitchell every year,” said Katie Buschbach, Mitchell Convention & Visitors Bureau sales manager. “We want this event to be something they look forward to being a part of every year on their way out to the rally, while building on Mitchell’s reputation for being one of the best biker-friendly communities.”
The Palace City Pre-Sturgis Party is a joint effort of the Mitchell Sports & Event Authority, Klock Werks, and the World’s Only Corn Palace.
