A group of city leaders, family, friends and community members gathered Wednesday to re-name and dedicate a popular city beach on Lake Mitchell’s north shore in honor of former Mayor Lou Sebert who passed away earlier this year.
Mayor Jordan Hanson led the effort to remember Sebert’s contributions to the community by re-naming Public Beach to Sebert’s Beach.
Bob Sebert spoke of his Dad’s love for Mitchell. “Dad was into community service. He loved where he was from. He loved living in Mitchell and he loved the people that were here and he did what he had to do to make Mitchell a better place to live and that’s what he would say today is do what you can do to make your hometown better,” Sebert told the gathering.

He pointed out the Sebert’s lived next door to the beach for 25 years and Lou loved it.
Lou Sebert served as Mitchell’s Mayor from 2006-2012 as well as the South Dakota Legislature from 1999-2006.
