The U.S. Global Leadership Coalition hosted its Heartland Summit in Mitchell Tuesday. The event focused on why global issues matter to South Dakota.
Senator Mike Rounds delivered the keynote address to stakeholders by offering praise and thanks to farmers. “These are the men and women who don’t just feed our families, they literally feed the world,” said Rounds. “If we want to remain a superpower, we have to make sure the food on our tables, and the people who produce it, are never taken for granted.”
He says it’s a matter of national security. “Our farmers are not just stewards of the land, they’re defenders of our national interest,” he said.
Rounds warned the threats posed by China, Russia, Iran and North Korea are real, and the United States must act now to neutralize them through what former President Ronald Reagan referred to as peace through strength.
