Fire officials have labeled the cause of a Saturday night fire that gutted a mobile home in Mitchell as undetermined. However Mitchell Fire Marshal Shannon Sandoval says it’s leaning toward electrical in nature.
Assistant Fire Chief Marius Laursen says crews responded shortly before midnight to the Middle Border Estates and found the residence in flames. He says crews controlled it in about 90 minutes. “A lot of internal damage and things on that line,” said Laursen. “The fire did make it through the roof at one point, but the guys did a great job of knocking the fire down.” He says it looks like the structure is a total loss.
Laursen says there were three people inside the mobile home at the time of the fire and all got out safely. They were acquaintances of the owner who wasn’t there at the time of the fire.
The fire doesn’t appear to be suspicious.
