Saturday’s parade to pay tribute to essential workers has been cancelled. Dave Stevens of the Mitchell United Way says it’s because the workers are truly “essential”. “A lot of our businesses said that they could not spare their essential workers to come,” said Stevens.
Plus others were concerned due to the COVID-19 pandemic and would rather play it safe.
Stevens says the community can still pay tribute to the essential workers without a parade. “We as individuals, when we recognize and see someone that has gone to work during this time to help service our other citizens, then say ‘thank you’ to them,” Stevens continued.
The parade was supposed to replace the 50th Annual Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo parade which was cancelled due to the pandemic as well.
