This may be an “off-year” for state-wide elections, but Secretary of State Monae Johnson says her office is always busy.
“We do the list maintenance this summer,” said Johnson. “And that’s where the actual Auditors send out postcards to people that have not voted in like four years, to see if they’re still inactive or things like that.” It’s called list-maintenance that goes out postcards to people.
A two-day county auditor training is scheduled for this fall in Pierre. “And it’s where we cover elections A to Z,” she said. “We’re just trying to get everything done we need to get done because in January we’ll kick it off again.”
Johnson says the 2024 election went well with post-election audits confirming the accuracy of the vote tabulators, plus a near 70-percent statewide voter turnout.
