Senator Mike Rounds called the late Pope Francis the one of the kindest and gentle souls to lead the Catholic Church in a long, long time. “Very humble, and what you saw was what he used to be when he was simply a priest and then as a bishop,” Rounds said. “And he brought that sincerity and that humbleness to the papacy.”
Rounds believes the world has lost someone very, very special. “I think what drove him and what I saw was he always asked how would Jesus respond and then he tried to do the same thing,” he said. “And I think the thing that catches my attention is how many times he would ask other people to pray for him because he needed the help and I think that’s something we can all learn from.”
Pope Francis’ funeral is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Square in Rome. Public viewing of his body is underway in St. Peter’s Basilica, days after the popular pontiff died at age 88.
