The Mitchell Area Development Corporation has closed a deal to locate an industrial park on 20 acres of land west of Ohlman Street near Trail King south of I-90 exit 330.
CEO Mike Lauritsen says it’s been in the works for nearly two and a half years and came together earlier this month. Next is designing the park and building infrastructure.
He says it’s an ideal location for distribution centers. “Denver, Omaha, Chicago, we’re either a half-day’s drive or a full-day’s drive from those larger cities,” said Lauritsen. “So when they look at distributing, here, to South Dakota, the Midwest, they could make a half-day’s drive, drop off stuff at the distribution center or pick up, or drop off, spend the night, and drive back.”
He also sees the Mitchell Regional Airport playing a role for a distribution center as well.
Lauritsen is confident that once the new industrial park is ready to go and advertised, it will be easier to land new businesses.
