More than 100 Republican former officials are reportedly threatening to form a new party.
Reports say the influential Republicans plan to release a call for reforms within the GOP and will form a new party if change doesn’t happen. The group will reportedly release a statement Thursday calling on Republicans to “either reimagine a party dedicated to our founding ideals or else hasten the creation of such an alternative.”
The preamble to the letter reportedly states: “When in our democratic republic, forces of conspiracy, division, and despotism arise, it is the patriotic duty of citizens to act collectively in defense of liberty and justice.
The “Call for American Renewal” will include 13 principles the group wants Republicans to embrace. The new effort comes as House Republicans are on the verge of removing Liz Cheney from her leadership role for criticizing former President Trump.
