South Dakota Highway Patrol investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash

A motorcyclist from Hartford died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision nine miles west of Sioux Falls.

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety is reporting the 56 year old male driver of a Harley Davidson was traveling westbound on SD Highway 42 near mile marker 350. At the same time, the 19 year old male driver of a pick-up truck was eastbound on SD 42 and attempted to pass the vehicle in front of him by entering the westbound lane. While passing, he collided head-on with the approaching motorcycle.

The driver of motorcycle died at the scene. The driver of the pick-up truck sustained minor injuries.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
