South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating an apparent hit and run incident west of Mitchell

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating what appears to be a hit and run incident west of Mitchell. South Dakota Department of Public Safety spokesman Tony Mangan says Davison County Sheriff’s Office personnel found a 25 year old man laying in the ditch on West Highway 16 around 8 am.

The man was walking eastbound on Highway 16 when hit by a moving vehicle. He was transported to Avera Queen of Peace hospital and later flown to a Sioux Falls hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The time of the incident and the vehicle involved are unknown at this time.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
