South Dakota records its largest one day number of new COVID-19 cases

The South Dakota Health Department reported the largest daily jump in new COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in March. On Saturday South Dakota added 251 new cases boosting the state’s total to 11,135 cases overall with 1,540 active cases. 9,435 have recovered for a recovery rate of just under 85%.

The previous daily record was 249 new cases on May 9th.

Meanwhile current hospitalizations jumped to 66 on Saturday from Friday’s total of 50. There was one new death bumping the overall total to 160 statewide.

The state has been adding more than 100 new cases daily since Wednesday.

Davison County added two new cases Saturday bumping its total to 106 with 10 active cases and 96 recovered with 2,537 negative tests and two deaths thus far.
