South Dakota Supreme Court rules against Sanford Health Plan

The South Dakota Supreme Court has ruled to bar Sanford Health Plan from denying coverage to policy holders who want to use medical providers outside the Sanford Health system.

The Woods Fuller Law firm in Sioux Falls brought legal action against the plan, representing several independent medical providers.

Attorney Andy Damgaard says restrictive provisions like that have become more common…

Voters approved a ballot measure in 2014 outlawing those kinds of provisions.

Damgaard says those kinds of policies can drive some medical providers out of business.
