South Dakota’s contribution to the National Time Capsule on the way

Celebrations for America’s 250th birthday are ramping up with only three weeks remaining before the national milestone of the U-S-A’s birth.  State Historical Society Director Dr. Ben Jones says South Dakota’s contributions to the National Time Capsule are ready for installation.

“They did confirm that they received the governor’s letter and the special edition of  ‘This Far Country’, the poem that we sent was received and several days later we got word that there were no issues with those items so they would be included,” said Jones.

The items will be placed in the National Time capsule which is located at Independence Hall in Philadelphia.

The America’s 250th South Dakota Commission earlier approved two-thousand dollars for production of the poem and Jones says some costs have increased.

He says South Dakota looks to have one of the more elaborate contributions to the Time Capsule.

The Commission approved the extra expenditure to cover the costs of the Time Capsule contribution with funds remaining in the Commission’s budget.
