Mitchell School District Curriculum Director Amanda Sonne says it’s a great time to be in the education sector in Mitchell. “We have the Musick Family Endowment that is bringing us all sorts of opportunities,” said Sonne. “One of them being the coaches, our instructional literacy coaches. We have one in every elementary building.”
She says literacy coaches are playing an important role for teachers and students with a new reading curriculum. “They are helping our teachers learn how to use the curriculum, how it works best, how it’s most engaging for our students,” Sonne said. “They help teachers understand how to use engagement strategies, how to piece those in, make learning fun.”
The coaches also gather data to develop a plan for every reader.
