Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery of Mitchell receives grant

Mitchell’s Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery Association is the latest recipient of an Operation Round-Up award from Central Electric Cooperative. The cooperative presented an $800 grant on October 17th at the cemetery located just south of Mitchell along Highway 27.

Cemetery president Jim Grosz says the association used the grants funds for fence improvements on the property. “Installing a corner fence at the cemetery creates a boundary for the cemetery and protects the sanctity of those who are buried here,” he said.

Operation Round-Up is a grant program powered by Central Electric members who voluntarily round up their monthly electric bill to the next dollar. The extra cents are deposited into a separate fund and used to support community-focused projects in the area.

Central Electric is a member-owned cooperative serving 5,000 members across eight counties. Since the grant program began in 2015, Operation Round-Up has supported 28 projects in Davison County.
