The former Mitchell High School is no more. “There are no walls standing, so everything that we have now is at grade or under the ground.” Superintendent Joe Childs said.
However, there’s still work to do below the surface. “Still a lot of debris that needs to be hauled out of there,” said Childs. “Of course, they separated everything, so you’ve got steel and aluminum and concrete block and brick all kind of separated there, and there’s still quite a bit of that left. But what they’re really probably focusing on now is pulling the footings and flat work out of there.”
He says across the street the final touches are underway. “Electronic sign for the high school, front and back,” Childs pointed out. “We’ll have an electronic board from Daktronics, and that’ll have current events and a display on it and indicate that’s the Mitchell High School door.”
Plus a smaller sign identifying the entrance to the Central Office located to the south.
