Two people died and another person was seriously injured early Sunday night in a one-vehicle crash west of Plankinton.
The Department of Public Safety reports preliminary information indicates a Toyota Camry was eastbound on Interstate 90 around 6:30 pm when the driver lost control of the car. The vehicle went into the south ditch and rolled.
Both male passengers, ages 26 and 60, were not wearing seat belts and were thrown from the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 19-year-old female driver suffered serious non-life threatening injuries. She was transported by ambulance to a Mitchell hospital and later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Charges are pending against her and her seatbelt use is under investigation.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
