Two vehicle fatal crash on I-29 Thursday afternoon

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety is reporting a 58 year old man from Vermillion died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on Interstate 29 at exit 18.

Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a Subaru Outback was traveling northbound near mile marker 18 when his vehicle left the roadway, crossed the median and went into the southbound lane of traffic. The Outback struck the rear of a southbound Toyota Tundra, with both vehicles coming to rest in the west ditch.

The driver of the Subaru was transported to a Sioux City hospital where he died from his injuries. The 36 year old male driver of the Toyota was treated at the scene and released.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
