One man died and another was injured in a two vehicle crash on Interstate 29 in North Sioux City, SD, Friday afternoon.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety reported the 69 year old driver of an SUV was traveling northbound on Interstate 29, slowed by congested traffic entering a construction zone. The 57 year old driver of a passenger car traveling the same direction at highway speeds, collided with the rear of the SUV, causing it to enter the median and roll over. The car went across the southbound lane and collided with a fence in the west ditch where it came to rest.
Both drivers were transported to a Sioux City hospital where the driver of the SUV passed died from his injuries. The driver of the car suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
The names of the people involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
