Woonsocket residents are busy cleaning up following a severe thunderstorm packing 70 mile an hour winds rolled through town around 3pm Sunday.
Sanborn County Sheriff Tom Fridley says fortunately no one was hurt but the town is still a mess. “They’re working on it,” Fridley said. “We got a lot of trucks, a lot of loaders, and the power men did a fantastic job. They got some stuff yet, but it still doesn’t look very good yet.”
He says an older, brick building was destroyed and others lost their roofs plus damage to some homes.
Fridley praised the work of the power crews that responded. “They’ve got a few places left, but other than that, they did a gallant job,” said the Sheriff.
They worked into the wee hours of Monday morning.
Fridley says there are fewer spectators in town today, than right after the storm hit on Sunday.
