Yankton Man Sentenced to 22 Years in Federal Prison for Distribution of Fentanyl Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury

A 33 year old man from Yankton has been sentenced to federal prison following his conviction for Distribution of a Controlled Substance Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

Matthew Williams was sentenced to 22 years in prison and four years of supervised release. He was ordered to pay a special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

The conviction stemmed from an incident on March 17, 2022, when Williams intentionally distributed a pill containing fentanyl to one of his drug customers who ingested it and overdosed. Paramedics were called to the residence and administered a dose of Narcan, which saved the victim’s life.

Williams was indicted by a federal grand jury in November 2023. He pleaded guilty on April 2, 2025.
