Recap- First set was a back-and-forth battle at the net as the Tigers and Chargers were knotted up at eight points apiece. The Tigers built their first lead of the set going on a six to one run spearheaded by Ady Dwight and Abigail Brunsing before Briar Cliff called their first time out. The Tigers held onto a small lead, but the Chargers were knocking on the door. Errors against DWU and a pair of ace serves that rolled over the net allowed the Chargers to take the lead 21-20 that forced the Tigers to call a timeout. Freshman Logan Bly was not going to allow the Chargers to take the set without a fight, as she put down two kills to tie up the score at 23’s but Briar Cliff walked out of set one with the 25-23 win.
DWU looked to get one back from Briar Cliff in the second set as they went on a quick run to go up 10-4 and forced a Charger timeout. Dwight led the charge on the early run and continued to apply the pressure as she picked up six kills to finish the set. Kayleigh Hybertson grabbed 14 assists on the way to the Tigers 25-15 win in the second set.
The Tigers kept the pedal to the floor in the third. Dwight kept making history for herself as she had three kills to start off the third set. The offense cruised to a quick eight-point lead that forced Briar Cliff to burn a timeout. Callie Slagter served up an ace coming out of the timeout and the Tigers used that momentum all the way to the 25-12 third set blowout to go up two sets to one.
Fourth set, Briar Cliff looked to make a comeback. The Chargers kept it close with the Tigers going back and forth to keep it even at nine to nine. Three errors on Briar Cliff and two quick kills from Bly and Elizabeth Tyler gave the Tigers the lead they needed, and they never looked back. Bly added one last kill straight down inside the attack line before the Chargers suffered a pair of errors to give the Tigers the 25-18 fourth set win.
