
BROOKINGS, S.D. — Brookings Post 74 swept Palace City Post 18 in an American Legion baseball doubleheader Tuesday, winning 5-1 in the opener and 10-1 in the nightcap.
The losses dropped Palace City to 17-17 overall and 10-13 against Class A opponents this season.
Post 18 took a 1-0 lead in the first game when Tyler Christensen drove in a run with a fifth-inning single. Brookings answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Tre Christopherson’s two-run single, to take control.
Christensen was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on six hits over six innings. Carter McCormick led Palace City with two hits, while Christensen drove in the team’s lone run.
In the second game, Brookings scored twice in the third inning before breaking the game open with a six-run fifth on five hits. Jase Bauer, Jude Meendering, Noah Lease and Ben Schulte each drove in runs during the inning, while two more runs scored on hit batters and an error.
Brookings starter Maxten Jensen earned the complete-game victory, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six. Carter McCormick took the loss for Post 18 after pitching the first 2 2/3 innings.
Dawson Adams had two hits for Palace City in the nightcap, while Christensen drove in the team’s only run and stole two bases.
Palace City returns to action Wednesday with a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Huron.
