Concordia Runs Past Dakota Wesleyan 42-7

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Concordia Bulldogs football team cruised to a 42-7 win over the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers with an impressive ground attack and dominant defense as the Tigers fell to 0-3 on the season.

Concordia set the tone of the game on their opening drive as they marched 75 yards in 10 plays and QB D.J. McGarvie found Austin Jablonski for a 12-yard touchdown pass to give the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead just over three minutes into the game. Concordia struck again twice in the second quarter while Dakota Wesleyan was forced to punt on their first four possessions. The Bulldogs found the endzone again on a 51-yard touchdown run by Carlos Callazo to give Concordia a 14-0 lead with 10:33 left in the first half. After another Dakota Wesleyan punt, Callazo would score for the second time on the afternoon on a 3-yard touchdown run to finish off a 10-play, 80-yard drive with 3:07 left in the first half to give the Bulldogs a 21-0 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Concordia extended their lead to 28-0 as they went down the field on a methodical 14-play drive that covered 87 yards and was capped off by a 1-yard touchdown run by Mark Arp, who found the endzone three times in the second half. Dakota Wesleyan would finally get on the scoreboard early in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Carter Robinson to sophomore Cole Holden, which cut the Bulldogs lead to 28-7. Concordia answered the lone Tiger scoring drive of the game with a pair of their own as Arp found the endzone two more times in the fourth quarter on a 3-yard and 6-yard touchdown run to make the final score 42-7.

The Bulldogs outgained the Tigers 641-370 yards on the afternoon as QB D.J. McGarvie threw for 309 yards and 1 touchdown and they rushed for 339 yards as a team. The Tigers were led by QB Carter Robinson, who passed for 234 yards and had 1 touchdown pass.

Dakota Wesleyan falls to 0-3 on the season and will be on a bye week next Saturday before facing Midland at Fremont, Nebraska on September 28th.
