Corsica-Stickney Rallies Past Parkston for Third Place in Overtime Thriller

BROOKINGS, S.D. – Corsica-Stickney erased a 10-point second-half deficit and outscored Parkston in overtime to secure a 65-58 victory for third place in the Class B state tournament on Saturday.

Parkston controlled much of the game early. The Trojans led 27-22 at halftime and stretched the advantage to 47-37 after the third quarter behind strong outside shooting and balanced scoring.

Morgan Maxwell led Parkston with 17 points, hitting 3-of-5 from three-point range, while Berkley Ziebart added 16 points with four three-pointers. KeeAra Oakley also scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Trojans.

Corsica-Stickney stormed back in the fourth quarter.

The Jaguars outscored Parkston 17-7 in the period, fueled by Hadynn Johnson, who finished with a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds, and Braylee Bordewyk, who added 18 points and 13 rebounds.

A three-pointer by Johnson with 2:49 remaining gave Corsica-Stickney its first lead of the game at 52-51. Parkston responded late when Ziebart knocked down a clutch three-pointer with 50 seconds left to tie the game 54-54 and force overtime.

In the extra period, Corsica-Stickney pulled away.

Johnson and Bordewyk scored early baskets to give the Jaguars the lead, and Remi Nelson buried a three-pointer with 1:37 remaining to push the margin to six. Corsica-Stickney sealed the win at the free-throw line in the final seconds.

Nelson finished with nine points, while Sophie DeLange added 13 points and four assists for the Jaguars.

Corsica-Stickney shot 44% from the field and dominated inside with 28 points in the paint, helping the Jaguars complete the comeback victory.
