MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Munger of Dakota Wesleyan University has been named the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week. The Chamberlain, South Dakota native placed first at the DWU Spring Invite with a two-round total of 140 (69, 71), finishing atop a field of 48 golfers from seven teams.
Munger is a dual-sport athlete who plays baseball for the Tigers and maintains a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.
Assistant Baseball Coach Ben Johnson spoke highly of Munger’s dedication and work ethic. “Dakota is one of the hardest workers on our team. Day in and day out, he puts in the effort. When he’s on campus, he’s constantly moving—from the golf course to the baseball field—and he handles both with discipline and focus. He’s been a consistent starter for us and brings a strong work ethic to everything he does,” Johnson said. “This is what stands out most about him.”
Head Golf Coach Jeff Meyerink also praised Munger’s all-around excellence. “Dakota is a hard worker who truly checks all the boxes—he’s dedicated, disciplined, competitive, and coachable,” Meyerink said. “Balancing two sports at the collegiate level is a challenge, but he handles it exceptionally well.”
This Thursday, Munger will travel with the DWU baseball team to Sioux City to compete in a doubleheader against Briar Cliff.
