Dakota Valley’s Issac Bruns named Class A Player of the Year

Issac Bruns had been named the Class A Boys Basketball Player of the Year after leading Dakota Valley to a second consecutive state championship and its 53rd straight win.

Bruns led Class A by averaging 26.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Teammate Randy Rosenquist was also a first team selection, averaging 13.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game.

Reed Rus of Mt. Vernon/Plankinton was named to the second team after leading the Titans to its first state tournament since 2017. The future University of South Dakota Coyote averaged 18.6 points, 9.4 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 3.3 steals per game as a senior. He also set the MVP all-time scoring record earlier in the season.

Hanson’s Ethan Cheeseman was also a second team selection, leading the Beavers with 19.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Cheeseman has committed to play basketball at Dakota Wesleyan.
