Dakota Wesleyan Men’s Golf Secure First at DWU Spring Invite

MITCHELL, S.D. – The Tigers men’s golf team hosted the DWU Spring Invite on Monday and Tuesday at Lakeview Municipal golf course. The golfers who represented the Tigers, as a team, were Dakota MungerAndrew NorbergJackson ChildsConnor Calahan, and Cody CavanaughRyan FlanneryJack Olson, and Brendon VanBeek completed individually.

Team Highlights:

– Dakota Munger (Fr.) led the meet by winning it all. He scored a 140 total. Scoring 69 on day one and 71 on day two.

– Peyton Bettcher (Jr.) wasn’t too far behind as he took 2nd overall. He scored 72 on day one, and was able to finish strong on day two with a final of 69. Giving him a total of 141.

– Connor Calahan (So.) is the next Tiger golfer up on the leaderboard as he took 5th to end the meet. He found consistency on the green with a score of 74 on day one and 72 on day two. Totaling him out at 146.

– Andrew Norberg (Jr.) found consistency throughout his play as his day one and day two scores were close, 74 and 75. Norberg finished with a total score of 149 and tied at 10th.

– Jackson Childs (So.) finished tied at 18th. Childs had a rough day one as he scored a 80, but was able to recover on day two as he rounded the day out with a 77. A 157 combined total of day one and two.

– Cody Cavanaugh (Sr.) was the last Tiger to finish off the tournament. He scored a total of 159. 81 on day one and 78 on day two.

Individual Highlights:

– Jack Olson (Fr.) ended his competition by tying for 2th. Scoring 81 on both days and totaling 162.

– Brendon VanBeek (Fr.) competed individually. VanBeek was consistent throughout the tournament scoring 83 on both days, and ending with a total of 166. He finished at tying for 32nd.

– Ryan Flannery (Jr.) finished at tying for 32nd. On day one he scored 85 and found a way to bounce back on day two as he scored a 81. Total of 166.

 

Tigers Look Ahead:

As a team the Tigers had a strong showing throughout their tournament as they held the lead on both days and had three athletes finish in the top-five of the meet. On day one, round one, they finished with a score of 289. On day two, round two, they finished with a score of 287. A combined total of 576. The Tigers held their ground having the home green advantage as they ended in 1st.

The men’s golf team plans to compete next at GPAC Championships. A good moment to carry positive momentum as they head to a big meet for the Tigers as they will travel to Batrice, Nebraska to compete for 54 holes. The conference championship is scheduled to take place on April 21 and 22nd.
