Dakota Wesleyan Volleyball Swept at No. 6 Northwestern

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — RV Dakota Wesleyan Volleyball faced the Northwestern Red Raiders down in Iowa in a GPAC contest on Wednesday night.

The Tigers started the first set on a quick scoring run led by Evy Knoblock, who would serve as the team’s main offensive threat throughout the contest. Knoblock recorded 13 kills and three digs, and would be supported offensively by Lily Ranschau, who recorded six kills of her own. Even with the early burst of points, the Red Raiders would quickly find their footing, rattling off multiple scoring runs of their own. Late momentum would favor Northwestern, and, even after an ending comeback effort from the Tigers, they would claim the first set by a score of 19-25.

As the second set began, DWU would find defensive support in Elizabeth Tyler and Abigail Zegar, who combined for 25 total digs during the match. The sixth-ranked Red Raiders would carry over their win from the first set into the second, claiming a two-set lead after a 15-25 victory.

Kayleigh Hybertson would lead the offense in assists as the main driving force for the team with 20 in total. Even with her efforts, No. 6 Northwestern would close out the third set in a swift 11-25 frame. The offense would get a surge from Karly VanDerWerff with five kills and a block, but the pace of the Red Raiders would ultimately get the best of the Tigers. Dakota Wesleyan would fall in a three-set contest.

DWU Volleyball will be back in action on Wednesday, September 17th, against Dordt in a 7:30 PM contest in the Christen Family Athletic Center.
