Dan Jansen hired to lead O’Gorman boys basketball program

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — O’Gorman High School has turned to a decorated former standout and experienced coach to lead its boys basketball program, announcing the hiring of Dan Jansen as head coach.

Jansen brings an extensive résumé highlighted by elite collegiate accolades at Augustana University and nearly a decade of coaching experience.

A two-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year, Jansen was a dominant force in Division II basketball. He earned multiple All-America honors and was named the 2016 Division II National Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

During his standout career at Augustana, the 6-foot-9 forward became the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,217 points and finished among the school’s top rebounders. He also led the Vikings to a national championship in 2016, cementing one of the most accomplished careers in program history.

Following his college career, Jansen played professionally overseas before transitioning into coaching. His experience includes serving as head coach at Palmetto Christian Academy, an assistant varsity coach at Regina Catholic, and most recently working within the O’Gorman program as a junior varsity coach.

Jansen was recognized for his coaching success in 2022, earning Region Coach of the Year honors in South Carolina.

O’Gorman officials cited Jansen’s combination of high-level playing experience, proven leadership and familiarity with the program as key factors in the hire.

He now takes over an O’Gorman program looking to build on its tradition and compete at a high level in South Dakota’s largest class.

“I’m excited for the opportunity and grateful to be part of a program with such strong tradition,” Jansen said in a statement. “I look forward to working with these student-athletes and continuing to build something special.”

Jansen’s hiring signals a new chapter for O’Gorman boys basketball, with expectations high as he steps into the role.
