Day one of the 2023 South Dakota High School Track and Field meet in Sioux Falls wrapped up with numerous area athletes taking home first place.
In Class A, Lee Reiser of Platte-Geddes won the Discus Throw at 177 feet, 5 inches, while Hanson’s Brock Tuttle placed fourth at 148 feet, 2 inches.
Jeffery Boschee of Sanborn Central/Woonsocket took home first in the High Jump at 6 feet, 7 1/2 inches, while Reed Rus of Mt. Vernon/Plankinton was second at 6 feet, 4 inches.
Mandi Schock of McCook Central/Montrose had a fourth place finish with a Triple Jump of 34 feet, 3 1/2 inches.
In preliminaries, Berkeley Engelland of MVP won the 100 meter dash in 12.24 seconds, while Lauren Ziebart of Ethan/Parkston was fourth at 12.40 seconds. MVP’s Reagan Rus won the 100 meter hurdles prelims in 15.47 seconds, while Brandy Pulse came in third at 15.71 seconds.
In the boys 110 meter hurdles prelims, Reed Rus finished first in 14.82 seconds, nearly a half second better than second place and his fastest time of the season. Also in prelims, the Platte-Geddes 4X100 meter relay of Skyler Hanten, Trevor Rolland, Hayden Sprik and Aiden Bultje finished second in 43.98 seconds, just 0.14 second behind first place Sioux Falls Christian.

In Class B, Trinity Bietz of Scotland won the Girls Shot Put with a throw of 39 feet, 1 1/2 inches.
In preliminaries, Freeman eighth grader Rylee Peters placed third in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.66 seconds. The Freeman 4X100 meter relay team of Makenzie Scharberg, Peters, Kate Miller and Zenovia Butler finished third in the prelims in 52.22 seconds
Lucas Krogstad of Corsica-Stickney had a fourth place finish in the Discus Throw at 142 feet, 6 inches.

In Class AA, the Mitchell Girls 1600 Sprint Medley team of Brooke Bartscher, Mia Mullenmeister, Lizzie Tyler, Carsyn Weich finished eighth in a time of 4:14.12, which broke the school record dating back to 1974.
In prelims, the Mitchell 4X100 meter relay team of Brannan, Mullenmeister, Claire Hegg and Tyler was good for fourth at 49.96 seconds, which set another school record that was set earlier this month at Joe Quintal Field.
Mitchell’s Treyson Schulz finished sixth in the Long Jump with a distance of 21 feet, 8 1/4 inches.
