Dordt Men Edge Dakota Wesleyan 92-91 in Overtime Thriller

MITCHELL, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan’s home finale turned into an instant classic Wednesday night, but Dordt escaped with a 92-91 overtime win in Great Plains Athletic Conference play.

The Tigers (14-13, 9-10 GPAC) rallied from a five-point halftime deficit and forced overtime after Anthony Riggans scored with 55 seconds left to tie the game at 81. Connor Millikan’s last-second three at the end of regulation missed, sending it to OT.

In the extra period, Dordt (15-12, 10-9 GPAC) made just enough plays down the stretch to secure the one-point victory.

Steele Morgan led Dakota Wesleyan with 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting and added six rebounds. Riggans poured in 22 points and grabbed seven boards, while Tyson Stevenson chipped in 13 points. Oliver Vincent added 11 points and five assists off the bench, and Randy Rosenquist Jr. dished out eight assists.

Dordt was powered by Millikan’s 28 points and eight rebounds. Ty Van Essen added 23 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, and Judson Henkel finished with 15 points. The Defenders shot 51% from the field and hit 11-of-22 from three-point range.

Dakota Wesleyan shot 49% overall and went 16-of-18 at the free-throw line but was outrebounded 34-30.

With the loss, the Tigers fall into seventh place in the GPAC standings and will close the regular season Saturday at Northwestern.
