DWU Football Players Named to All-Conference Team

Mitchell, S.D. – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) announced the 2024 GPAC Football All-Conference Team selections this morning. The Tigers football team posted five players to the All-Conference list, led by First Team Offense selection, John Pica, followed by Second Team Offense, Koby Kayser and Second Team Defense, Landon Ruesink. Honorable Mentions went to the senior starting quarterback, Carter Robinson and junior wide receiver, Cole Holden. 

All-Conference First Team Offense 

The sophomore from Dell Rapids, S.D., John Pica, was undoubtedly one of the Tiger’s top offensive linemen. His physicality really stood out on tape as he consistently overpowered defenders and finished blocks with authority. It’s clear that other coaches also recognized his dominance, as his performances were hard to overlook. 

All-Conference Second Team Offense 

Koby Kayser had an impressive season for the Tigers, making a strong impact both on the ground and in the passing game. Through 11 games, Kayser had 159 rushes for a total of 926 yards, averaging 84.2 per game. He put up 8 touchdowns on the season and caught 17 passes for a total yardage of 139, averaging 12.6 per game. Kayser’s versatility as both a rusher and a receiver made him a key offensive weapon for the Tigers. His standout performance in the season’s final home game against Briar Cliff, scoring 4 touchdowns, shows his ability to perform under pressure and in crucial moments. His consistent production throughout the season demonstrates his durability and role as a focal point in the Tigers’ offense. 

Kayser received GPAC Offensive Player Of The Week on November 11th. 

All-Conference Second Team Defense 

Landon Ruesink, the junior from Dell Rapids, S.D., had an outstanding season. Over the course of 11 games, Ruesink recorded 38 solo tackles and 15 assists, showcasing his defensive versatility. He also made a significant impact, with 2 interceptions and 11 pass breakups, which has him at the top of the GPAC leader board in pass breakups. On special teams, Ruesink excelled with 140 punt return yards total from 12 punt returns. His all-around contributions were crucial to his team this season 

Honorable Mentions

Carter Robinson, the quarterback transfer from Augustana University, Sioux Falls, S.D., took over as the Tiger’s starter for the 2024-25 season and delivered an impressive performance. Over 11 games, Robinson completed 169 of 268 passes, averaging 168.5 yards per game, and totaled 1,853 passing yards. He threw for 12 touchdowns while also contributing himself, rushing for 5 touchdowns. Robinson finished the season with 120 rushing attempts, gaining 584 yards and averaging 53.1 yards per game. 

With 52 receptions for 587 yards and 7 touchdowns over 11 games, Cole Holden, the junior from Watertown, S.D., demonstrated consistent production and made a significant impact on the Tiger’s offense. Averaging 53.4 yards per game highlights his role as a reliable target in the passing game.
