DWU’s Avery Broughton Earns GPAC Defensive Player of the Week

(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following women’s basketball players-of-the-week for contests played January 5-12, 2026. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2025-2026 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Basketball Players-of-the-Week

Offensive – Ayla Roth, Concordia University (Forward)

Ayla Roth of Concordia University is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports women’s basketball offensive player-of-the-week.  Roth, a freshman from Milford, Nebraska, led ninth-ranked Concordia in scoring in both victories this past week. She scored 16 points in a road win at Morningside and added 20 in a home victory over No. 13 Briar Cliff. For the week, she shot 56.5 percent (13-for-23) from the field and 53.8 percent (7-for-13) from three-point range.   

Defensive – Avery Broughton,   Dakota Wesleyan University (Guard)

Avery Broughton of Dakota Wesleyan University is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports women’s basketball defensive player-of-the-week.  Broughton, a junior from Corsica, South Dakota, led the Tigers in rebounds in both wins last week over Doane and Mount Marty. She tied a program record of six blocks in the 79-50 win over the Lancers while adding 12-points and 12-rebounds. She also recorded eight boards, five assists, a steal, and a block against Doane while averaging 14.5 points between both games.
