Fire damages Brandon Valley Baseball Association grandstand

BRANDON, S.D. — A fire heavily damaged the Brandon Valley Baseball Association’s First National Bank Field less than two days after one of its teams won a state championship.

Association officials said the fire broke out Monday night beneath the grandstand, destroying everything stored underneath and causing heavy smoke damage to the concession stand and press box. The grandstand also sustained damage.

Officials asked the public to stay away while the state fire marshal investigates the cause. The Brandon Fire Department responded to the blaze.

The fire came just days after the BV Black junior legion team capped a 5-0 run through the state tournament with a 9-5 victory over Renner to win the 2026 Junior Legion state championship.

Association officials called the fire a setback but vowed the community would recover.
