Recap – The Tigers opened the first quarter with solid play on both ends of the floor leading to a 23-16 lead. DWU spread the ball around to attack the Jimmies defense getting five points from Isabel Ihnen, Rylee Rosenquist, and Emma Yost. Dakota Wesleyan shot an efficient 55.6% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc. The Tigers faced a UJ zone for most of the quarter and attacked it with ball screens and dribble drive kick outs to find the open shots.
Second quarter had the Tigers continue to play their clean brand of basketball with only one turnover in the quarter while forcing four turnovers. DWU continued to attack the Jimmies inside letting Yost go to work and executing back door cuts to get open layups. The Tigers had great ball movement in the first half assisting on eight of the 18 made field goals while still taking care of the ball with just the one turnover in each quarter. DWU held an 11-point lead going to the half, which could be even larger if they weren’t uncharacteristically outrebounded on the offensive glass by the Jimmies that led to 10 second chance points compared to the Tigers lone two.
Dakota Wesleyan, usually being a second half team, came out of the locker room sluggish turning the ball over twice, matching their total for the whole first half and seeing their 11-point lead fall to four with the Jimmies 7-0 run to open the quarter. The Tigers settled down and found their groove again to reclaim their double-digit lead later in the quarter. Jamestown would edge the Tigers out 23-19 in the quarter to cut the DWU lead to seven heading to the final quarter.
Rosenquist and Sprakel took over on offense for the Tigers in the fourth, being responsible for 11 of the Tigers’ 18 total points. DWU also turned up the heat on defense, forcing tough contested shot after contested shot leading to a game low 15 points in the quarter for UJ. Dakota Wesleyan ended the game shooting 44.8% which was almost identical to the Jimmies 44.6%. The difference was the Tigers dominating the offensive glass in the second half on their way to win the margin 16-8. DWU had eight players with 5+ points in the contest.
