— Mitchell Kernels basketball will be at Brookings on Friday night for a doubleheader starting with the girls game at 6 pm, followed by the boys at 7:30 pm. Coverage starts with the KORNer Booth pregame show at 5 pm.
— Mitchell Kernels gymnastics travels to the Huron Invitational on Friday at 5:30 pm.
— Mitchell Kernels girls wrestling is back on the mats at the Harrisburg Invitational on Friday, then both the Mitchell boys and girls will host the Jerry Opbroek Invitational at 9 a.m. on Saturday, at the high school gym. On the boys side, Mitchell’s Blaze Sevigny is ranked third the Dakota Grappler’s Class A 106 pounds rankings. Noah Bennett is also third at 132 pounds, while Rocky Clark is fourth at heavyweight.
DAKOTA WESLEYAN
— No. 9 Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball, 14–4 overall and 10–2 in the GPAC, host 10th-ranked Concordia on Sunday at 2 p.m.
— Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball, 10-9 overall, host Concordia on Sunday at 3:45 pm.
SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
— South Dakota State women’s basketball defeated Denver on Thursday night 90-44 for their 67th straight Summit League regular season win. The Jacks held Denver to just eight points in the second and fourth quarters. Maggie Hartwig surpassed 1,000 points for her collegiate career with 14 points, nine rebounds and a career-high five assists. Brooklyn Meyer finished with a game-high 18 points and seven rebounds. SDSU hosts North Dakota State on Saturday at 2 pm.
— South Dakota State men’s basketball hosts Kansas City on Saturday afternoon at 4:15 pm.
— South Dakota State wrestling will be at Utah Valley on Friday night at 8 pm CST.
SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD men’s basketball defeated Kansas City 99-83 on Thursday night, led by 31 points and 15 rebounds from Cameron Fens. The Coyotes improve to 9-2 at home this season as they head on the road at North Dakota on Saturday at 1 pm.
— USD women’s basketball host Denver on Saturday at 1 pm.

— Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has a left oblique injury. Darnold got hurt during Thursday’s practice and was listed as questionable for Saturday’s NFC divisional playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers, but he said he’ll play. Darnold said he felt something in his oblique while throwing passes to receivers with no defenders.
— San Francisco’s star linebacker Fred Warner is out for the 49ers. Warner returned to practice this week after a serious ankle injury in October. Coach Kyle Shanahan initially called it a season-ending injury, but hopes Warner could return if the team advances. The 49ers are also hoping to get receiver Ricky Pearsall back this week.
MLB
— The Los Angeles Dodgers have landed top free agent OF Kyle Tucker with a four-year, $240 million contract, including opt-outs after the second and third years. Tucker, 28, had a strong first half last season with the Chicago Cubs but was slowed by injuries like a fractured hand and calf strain in the second half. Tucker is a four-time All-Star and a former Gold Glove winner. The Cubs declined his qualifying offer and will receive a compensatory draft pick.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
— Federal prosecutors are investigating a major betting scheme involving NCAA and Chinese Basketball Association games. The investigation has implicated 26 people, including over a dozen college basketball players who allegedly tried to fix games. Prosecutors say gamblers recruited players with promises of big payments for underperforming. The fixers then bet against the players’ teams, defrauding sportsbooks and other bettors. The scheme involved more than 39 players from over 17 NCAA Division I teams, affecting more than 29 games.

Ball had 11 assists and six rebounds, as he hit eight 3-pointers in the second half.
— Boston’s Anfernee Simons came off the bench to score 18 of his season-high 39 points in the fourth quarter as the Boston Celtics trailed most of the way before rallying to beat the Miami Heat 119-114. The Celtics outscored Miami 36-21 in the fourth quarter after facing a 19-point deficit.
— Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 20 points and Chet Holmgren added 18 as the Oklahoma City Thunder pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the Houston Rockets 111-91. The Thunder outscored Houston 34-16 in the fourth quarter for their fifth straight win.
— Jimmy Butler had 32 points and eight rebounds, while Steph Curry finished with 27 points and seven assists, as the Golden State Warriors beat the New York Knicks 126-113.The Knicks have lost seven of their last nine games.
— Victor Wembanyama returned from a first-quarter injury scare to score 22 points and grab 10 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 119-101 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. The Spurs led by 39 points early in the fourth quarter.
— Duncan Robinson scored 19 points, while Jalen Duren had 16 points and 18 rebounds as the Detroit Pistons rallied to beat the Phoenix Suns 108-105. The Eastern Conference-leading Pistons trailed by 16 points in the first half and were behind after each of the first three quarters. Detroit PG Cade Cunningham missed 13 of 16 shots, was 0 of 7 on 3-pointers and 4 of 9 at the line, finishing with 10 points and 11 assists.
— Paolo Banchero had 26 points and 13 rebounds as Orlando beat the Memphis Grizzlies 118-111 in the NBA’s first regular-season game in Germany. Jaren Jackson Jr. scored 30 points for Memphis. The Grizzlies and Magic meet again in London on Sunday.
— Klay Thompson matched his season high with six 3-pointers and moved into fourth place on career list, scoring a season-best 26 points to help the Dallas Mavericks beat the Utah Jazz 144-122.
