AMATEUR BASEBALL – THURSDAY
Platte 15, Mitchell Aces 4 (7 inn.) – Platte scored nine-runs in the fifth inning. Hunter Hewitt and Preston Nedved with back-to-back HR’s. Nedved ended the game in the seventh with his second HR of the game. Michael Buitenbos worked all seven innings, striking out four and allowing only two earned runs.

Mount Vernon 10, Dimock/Emery 1 – Deric Denning went all nine innings for the Mustangs, allowing one run and eight hits with nine strikeouts. Bradley Dean with a HR.

Winner/Colome 5, Parkston Mudcats 2 – Patrick Starr with a complete game for Winner/Colome, allowing five hits with 11 strikeouts.

Parkston Rays 18, Corsica 6 (8 inn.) – Dylan Soulek with 3 RBI’s, while Carter Sommer had four hits. Logan Baker went 3-for-3 for Corsica.

Plankinton 12, Four Corners 2 (7 inn.) – Drew Gerlach went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI’s. Teegan Schlimgen with a HR.

Kimball/White Lake 7, Chamberlain 1 – Ethan Price with 14 strikeouts in just 5 2/3 innings. Jason Christensen with a three-run HR.

Canova 10, Salem 0 (7 inn.) – Canova with five-runs in the fifth inning. Jackson Remmers with three hits.

MITCHELL KERNELS
— Mitchell Gold 16-and-under baseball (9-5 on the season) swept a doubleheader at Huron on Wednesday, winning 13-6 and 19-8 in five innings.

— Mitchell Black 14-and-under baseball (8-7) will compete in a tournament in Sioux Falls starting on Friday.

— Mitchell White 13-and-under baseball (4-11 on the season) lost at Brookings on Thursday 8-7 and 6-2.

— Mitchell will host a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) football camp on Wednesday, June 25th from 9 am to 3 pm at Joe Quintal Field. Camp is for players entering grades 5-8 this fall and the cost is $20.

SOUTH DAKOTA
— USD freshman pole vaulter Anna Willis has been named the Summit League Female Newcomer of the Month for the second straight time. Willis earned First Team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, where she cleared 14 feet, 6¾ inches. She was also the only freshman on the All-America list in women’s pole vault. Willis continues her season this week at the Nike Outdoor Nationals and USA Track & Field Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

NBA
— Obi Toppin scored 20 points, Andrew Nembhard added 17 as the Indiana Pacers sent the NBA Finals to a winner-take-all Game 7 by rolling past the Oklahoma City Thunder 108-91 on Thursday night. Pascal Siakam had 16 points and 13 rebounds for Indiana, while Tyrese Haliburton, playing through a strained calf, scored 14 points for the Pacers. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 21 points for the Thunder, who pulled their starters after getting down by 30 going into the fourth. Game 7, the first one in the NBA Finals since 2016, will be Sunday night in Oklahoma City at 7 pm on ABC.

MLB
— The Los Angeles Dodgers organization says it asked federal immigration agents to leave the Dodger Stadium grounds after they arrived at a parking lot near one of the gates. The team says the agents requested permission to access the stadium’s parking lot but they were denied entry and were asked to leave. Local media reported dozens of federal agents with their faces covered arrived in SUVs and cargo vans to a lot near the stadium’s Gate E entrance. A group of protesters started amassing shortly after. By Thursday afternoon, only about four agents remained outside the stadium.

NBA
— Former NBA player Vlade Divac is recovering after emergency hip surgery following a motorcycle accident in Montenegro. The 57-year-old Hall of Famer fell near the Adriatic coast on Thursday and doctors implanted an artificial hip. Divac, known for his time with the Lakers, Kings, and Hornets, is in stable condition and under close medical supervision. A pioneer for European players in the NBA, Divac played over 1,000 games and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2019.

— Houston Rockets head coach Ime Udoka has agreed to a contract extension, making him one of the highest paid coaches in the league. The terms haven’t been made public. Udoka has led a major turnaround in Houston, taking the team from the bottom of the league to the second-best record in the Western Conference this season and their first playoff appearance in five years. Udoka, who previously coached the Boston Celtics to the NBA Finals in 2022, was hired by Houston in 2023.

NFL
— Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been ticketed for speeding twice this month in Ohio. Most recently, he was clocked at 101 miles per hour in a 60 zone near Cleveland early Tuesday morning. Earlier in June, Sanders was also cited for going 91 in a 65 zone. Court records show he missed a court appearance for the first ticket and now owes over $260 in fines.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL
— Oregon has landed Jett Washington, ESPN’s No. 1 safety in the 2026 class and nephew of the late Kobe Bryant. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound standout from Las Vegas chose Oregon over Alabama and USC. Washington is ranked 22nd overall nationally and is a star at Bishop Gorman, where he made 38 tackles and 5 interceptions last season.
