Tyler Christensen’s bases loaded single in the bottom of the seventh gave Palace City Post 18 Legion a 6-5 walk-off victory over Parkston on Thursday. Kaiden Allen’s two-run single in the bottom of the second put Palace City ahead 4-0. Parkston took it’s first lead in the game with two runs in the top the seventh following an error and sac fly Sean Deckert. Dawson Adams sacrifice bunt tied the game 5 apiece. A walk and intentional walk loaded the bases with one out to setup Christensen’s game winner. Kaiden Allen and Ethan Hegg each had three hits for PCBA while Christensen collected two hits. Carson Bueber led Parkston with two while Wyatt Anderson and Landon Weber each drove in one run. Palace City Post 18 (13-11) is slated to play Letcher Post 29/93 in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
Platte/Geddes WhiteCaps scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to top Alexandria Post 41 7-6 on Thursday. Isaac Leader had two runs batted in for Platte/Geddes. Kingston Feldhaus had a pair of hits for Alexandria.
Palace City Post 18 Junior Legion will return to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader at Huron starting at 5 p.m.

Carter Brown hit a pair of doubles and drove in five runs to lead Alexandria Angels past Mount Vernon Mustangs 13-1 on Thursday at Mount Vernon. Dakota Munger gave up six hits and one run (zero earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking three. AJ Wilber followed with three innings of scoreless relief. The reliever surrendered zero hits, striking out four and walking two. Eric Giblin had a hit and drove in a run. Alexandria Angels play at home on Sunday against Platte Killer Tomatoes in their next game.
Dimock-Emery’s Dane Toman allowed one hit and struck out 10 over seven innings in the Raptors’ 6-1 against Corsica in Emery. Toman also led Dimock Emery with two hits and three runs batted in. AJ Goeden took the loss for Corsica allowing three runs on six hits, striking out six and walking one in five innings.
Dillon Lambley collected five hits and two RBIs as Winner Colome Pheasants defeated the Parkston Mudcats 8-4. Connor Hopkins tossed a complete game allowing three hits and four runs while striking out 14.
Flandreau Blue Teal topped Salem 7-3. Tash Lunday earned the win by yielding five hits and three runs over six innings, striking out nine and walking four. Dexter Payne had two hits and two runs batted in for Salem.
Canova outscored the Flandreau Cardinals 14-10. The Gang racked up 22 hits in the game. Cole Gassman had four hits including two doubles with Derek Miller adding three hits and two RBIs. Jacob Patterson had three hits including a home run and four RBIs for the Cardinals.

Ethan Bartels allowed two runs on four hits and rang up 12 strikeouts in the Winner Demons’s 11-2 victory over Plankinton Bankers. Kayleb Brozik had two hits including a home run and three runs batted in for the Demons. Walker Van Gorp had two hits for the Bankers.
Austin Hand surrendered just one run on three hits and struck out 11 as Four Corners beat Chamberlain 11-1 on Thursday.
Dylan Lehr collected three hits as Menno Mad Frogs defeated Bluebirds 7-4 in 10 innings on Thursday. Macon Oplinger allowed 12 hits and four runs (three earned) over 10 innings, striking out five and walking three. Connor Merriam also had three hits and Nick Ratzloff drove in two runs for Menno.
Dawson Portner hit a three-run home run and drove in five runs to lead Tea Steam past Freeman Blacksox 16-2. Billy Mote allowed two hits and one run over five innings, striking out seven and walking five. For Freeman, Colton Spader had a run batted in and Landen Niehoff had two hits.
US finishes group play with 3-2 loss to Turkey
The United States Men’s National Team wrapped up group play against Türkiye in what amounted to a final run-through going into the elimination round of 32. The Americans struck early with a goal from Auston Trusty in the third minute of play. Türkiye offered a retort in the form of two goals, that were later answered by a game-tying shot from Sebastian Berhalter in the 49th minute. With time winding down, Türkiye’s Kaan Ayhan netted the final goal, giving his country the 3-2 win. Christian Pulisic returned to the field for the United States just in time to warm up for the World Cup games that really matter starting next week. Pulisic entered the match as a substitute early in the second half, and he provided several strong sequences during his first game action in nearly two weeks. Next up for the USMNT is their Wednesday evening elimination round game in Santa Clara, California against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Action starts at 8:00pm ET on FOX.

Major League Baseball proposed limiting most free agent contracts to five years and 15% of a team’s salary cap and to eliminate deferred compensation, fleshing out details of a salary cap plan likely to spark a confrontation with the players’ association that could lead to the first loss of regular-season games since 1995. During a bargaining session Thursday at the union’s office, MLB said it would accept the union’s proposal granting free agency a year early for players who have reached age 30 as part of a salary cap system. MLB also proposed boosting the minimum salary from $780,000 to $1 million for those with two years of big league service.
Hornets trade LaMelo Ball, Josh Green to Timberwolves for Naz Reid, draft picks, AP source says
A person familiar with the situation says the Charlotte Hornets have agreed to trade point guard LaMelo Ball and Josh Green to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Naz Reid, a 2033 unprotected first-round draft pick, three first-round pick swaps and three future second-round picks. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Thursday because the deal has yet to be approved by the league. ESPN was first to report the trade. The three first-round pick swaps will be in 2028, 2029 and 2030. The Hornets also will get three second-round picks in 2029, 2032 and 2033. Charlotte also agreed to a three-year, $74 million contract with point guard Coby White to replace Ball. White, who backed up Ball last year, was set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Marina Mabrey matched the WNBA scoring record with 53 points to help the Toronto Tempo rout the Los Angeles Sparks 125-97 on Thursday night. Mabrey tied the mark set by Liz Cambage for Dallas against New York on July 17, 2018, and matched by A’ja Wilson for Las Vegas at Atlanta on Aug. 22, 2023. When Mabrey checked out of the game with a minute remaining, fans briefly booed before erupting into cheers in acknowledgement of her big night. The 29-year-old former Notre Dame star was 17 of 28 from the field, tied the WNBA record for 3-pointers with nine in 18 attempts, and made 10 of 12 free throws.
WNBA suspends Alyssa Thomas 1 game for hit to Caitlin Clark’s throat
The WNBA has suspended Phoenix’s Alyssa Thomas for one game after she made contact with her fist to Caitlin Clark’s throat in Wednesday night’s matchup against Indiana. It happened with 6:52 left in the second quarter and was deemed to be a non-basketball act. The league gave Thomas a Flagrant Foul 2 penalty for it. No foul was called on the play by officials. The WNBA is allowed to review a game to reclassify a Flagrant foul or to classify as Flagrant any foul not called as such during a game. Thomas will serve her suspension on Saturday when the Mercury visit the Toronto Tempo.
Detroit Lions player Terrion Arnold is charged with directing attack against 3 people in Florida
Detroit Lions player Terrion Arnold has been charged in Tampa, Florida, with leading a plot to detain and pistol-whip three people whom he believed had stolen from him. The crimes could carry a sentence of up to life in prison. Tampa police say Arnold believed the young men had stolen $100,000 and luxury goods from him at an Airbnb rental in February. But investigators found they had nothing to do it. Arnold’s lawyer says the NFL player “absolutely” denies the allegations. Arnold remains locked up until the next hearing Monday.
Ina Yoon opens the Women’s PGA Championship at Hazeltine with a record-tying 63
Ina Yoon matched the best score in the history of the Women’s PGA Championship with a 9-under 63 to take a two-stroke lead over Karis Davidson on Thursday in the third major of the season. Yoon, a 23-year-old South Korean seeking her first LPGA Tour victory, birdied five of her last six holes at Hazeltine National Golf Club with a putter that was consistently on point. Nelly Korda, who’s aiming to become just the third women to win the first three major tournaments on the schedule, had a 70. Davidson had eight birdies on the way to a career-best 65 on a calm and partly cloudy afternoon.
Eric Cole opens with a 63 at the Travelers Championship to lead Scheffler and others by 1
Eric Cole left the Travelers Championship early last year because of a nasty stomach issue. He returns with a 63 to take a one-shot lead. Cole chipped in for eagle and played bogey-free on the rain-softened TPC River Highlands. Scottie Scheffler shot 64 for his best start since he won in California to start the year. Five others including Matt Fitzpatrick also shot 64. Wyndham Clark says he had plenty of energy just four days after winning the U.S. Open. He hit one bad tee shot that led to a triple bogey. He shot 68 in front of a much nicer gallery.
Ecuador advances to World Cup knockout rounds, beats Germany 2-1 on Plata’s 77th-minute goal
Gonzalo Plata poked the ball past Manuel Neuer in the 77th minute and Ecuador advanced to the knockout stage of the World Cup by rallying for a 2-1 win over Germany. The Germans, who clinched first place in Group E with victories in their first two games, went ahead on Leroy Sané’s second-minute goal. Nilson Angulo scored Ecuador’s first goal of the tournament in the ninth minute. Plata scored after a corner kick was nodded on by Kevin Rodríguez. Ecuador finished third in the group with four points and advanced past the group stage for the second time.

The Phillies came from behind for a third straight game, winning the series by scoring 15 runs in the ninth inning against the majors’ worst bullpen after dropping opener of the four-game series 4-1.
